Concept Explanation

Suspension of Duma

In the early 20th century, Russia was experiencing severe social unrest due to economic hardship, poor working conditions, and food shortages. The Duma was the elected legislative body in Russia, created by Tsar Nicholas II in 1905 after the Russian Revolution of 1905. It was supposed to represent the people and work as a part of the government, but the Tsar still retained much of the power. The suspension of the Duma occurred in February 1917, which was a critical moment in the lead-up to the Russian Revolution.
